Russia has started forced military registration of migrants who have obtained Russian citizenship, Russian media report. For this purpose, law enforcers conduct raids and bring migrants to military enlistment offices. In St. Petersburg the police raided a vegetable warehouse and brought migrants with Russian passports to the district enlistment office. During a two-day raid at the vegetable warehouse, police found almost a hundred men from Central Asia with Russian citizenship who were not registered in the military register. All of them were brought to military enlistment offices. The police called this practice a "new option" to check compliance with migration laws. Previously, head of the Human Rights Council suggested issuing Russian passports to foreigners only with concurrent registration in the military register. A few days ago, residents of St. Petersburg began to report that they received messages demanding to arrive to the military enlistment office for "clarification of data." The authors of the messages threaten to initiate administrative proceedings in case of non-appearance. Similar summonses also began to arrive to men in Krasnoyarsk, Ulyanovsk and Chelyabinsk. A resident of Ulyanovsk told to the Govorit NeMoskva Telegram channel that those who come are offered to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense. In case of refusal, their identity data is checked, and then they are free to go.
