European Union leaders cranked up their criticism of the U.S. call to waive COVID-19 vaccine patents Saturday, arguing the move would bring no short or midterm relief. They instead urged Washington to lift export restrictions if it wants to have a global impact on the pandemic.
“We don't think, in the short term, that it's the magic bullet,” said EU Council President Charles Michel on the second day of an EU summit in Portugal. French President Emmanuel Macron insisted that giving any priority to discussing intellectual property rights now, “is a false debate.”
Instead, they joined previous EU calls for U.S. President Joe Biden to start boosting U.S. vaccine exports to contain the global COVID-19 crisis, insisting it was the most urgent need.
“We encourage all the partners to facilitate the export of (vaccine) doses," said Michel.
While the U.S. has kept a tight lid on exports of American-made vaccines so it can inoculate its own population first, the EU has become the world’s leading provider, allowing about as many doses to go outside the 27-nation bloc as are kept for its 446 million inhabitants. The EU has distributed about 200 million doses within the bloc while about the same amount had been exported abroad to almost 90 countries.
“First of all, you must open up,” said Macron. “In the United States, in the United Kingdom, 100 percent of what has been produced has been used in the domestic market.” Macron said that “first of all, the Anglo Saxons must stop their bans on exports."

THERE IS NO evidence the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against Covid-19 needs updating to protect against variants, BioNTech has said.

In its financial and company update report, the German firm said: “To date, there is no evidence that an adaptation of BioNTech’s current Covid-19 vaccine against key identified emerging variants is necessary.”

However, the company said it had developed a “comprehensive strategy” to address any coronavirus variants in the future should the need arise.

Par zapažanja. Prvo, po ovim podacima u Srbiji je vakcinisano 31,4% odraslog stanovništva, ne računajući Kosovo, gde ima vakcinisanih, ali nemamo popisne podatke (svi ostali podaci odnose se na Srbiju bez Kosova). Situacija je prošarana ali deluje da na Istoku i Jugu ide sporije.

Najmanji procenat vakcinisanih punoletnih stanovnika je u Tutinu 7%, Novom Pazaru 14%, a za njima se ređaju uglavnom manje opštine sa pretežno ruralnim stanovništvom. Situacija oko Novog Pazara (sa susednom Sjenicom sa 18%) najviše zabrinjava.

Czechia is working on bilateral travel agreements with several EU member states to allow citizens vaccinated against COVID-19 to travel freely across Europe.

“After a year and a half, people deserve holidays abroad. Our goal is to reach as soon as possible bilateral agreements with the most popular destinations, such as Greece and Croatia,” Czech Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhánek said on Tuesday after his meeting with his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Szijjártó, in Budapest.

Last week, he discussed travel agreements with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg.

“We prefer a pan-European solution in the form of digital certificates. However, we also want to have an agreement with our neighbours, a plan B. Vaccination remains a priority, which goes hand in hand with allowing vaccinated people to travel freely,” said Kulhánek.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš hinted that Czech citizens who have received both vaccine doses should be able to travel to Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary or Slovenia without having to quarantine as of 15 May. According to Health Minister Petr Arenberger, the prospect of easier travel will motivate young people to get their jabs.
