Euroskepticism is rising sharply in Poland

The number of Poles who feel the country’s future outside of the European Union might be brighter than inside it now outnumbers those who disagree, with 47 percent saying Poland would be better off outside the EU and 45 percent against.
The poll, conducted by Kantar, was a part of the European Commission’s research into public attitudes in the EU member states, with the survey finding that the number of those skeptical about the EU is rising rapidly in Poland.
Compared with the equivalent research conducted in 2018, the number of those saying Poland’s future may be brighter outside the EU has risen by 11 percentage points to stand at 47 percent.
The number of people feeling that Poland is better off inside the EU has fallen by 10 percentage points and stands now at 45 percent.

Of the countries researched, only Slovenia recorded a higher percentage (48 percent) of respondents feeling their country would do better outside of the EU rather than in it. Even in Britain, the survey found only 42 percent favoring Brexit and 45 percent supporting staying in the EU. The survey was conducted before the general election in the United Kingdom.
Italy was another country with strong anti-EU leanings, with 44 percent of respondents saying they are against staying in the EU with remainers were only two percentage points ahead at 46 percent.

The EU has been pressuring Poland to accept migrant quotas, stop much-needed judicial reforms, ditch coal, and accept policies like gay marriage and more liberal abortion laws.
It is worth noting that the trend towards Euroscepticism is present in all new member states of the EU, but Poland is running well above the average (2 percentage points), with Poland's rate of growth in Euroskepticism the highest of any country.

PARIS– France could withdraw from blocking accession talks with Albania and North Macedonia, said the French Presidential Advisor for European Affairs Clément Bonnet in an interview for the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, reports ATA.

“Now that the UK has left the EU, France wants to switch its focus towards the East. After Brexit, it is more important than ever to overcome differences within the EU and focus on what brings us together”, said Bonnet.

The Advisor to the French President Emmanuel Macron also assessed that Albania and North Macedonia should not have a different treatment, adding that this “would be contrary to French efforts to foster stability in the region”.

БЕРЛИН – Немачка и Аустрија одбијају актуелни предлог будућег буџета ЕУ и сматрају да, после иступања Велике Британије из чланства Уније, треба спровести реформе које би ЕУ учиниле конкурентнијом и делотворнијом, истакли су данас у Берлину немачка канцеларка Ангела Меркел и њен аустријски колега Себастијан Курц, преноси Танјуг.
Меркелова је, на заједничкој конференцији за штампу, упитана да ли може замислити, у склопу процеса реформе Уније и промену споразума, казала да може замислити да ће бити промене споразума тамо где то буде потребно.
„Након Брегзита морамо да јачамо нашу конкурентност, морамо брже деловати, ако желимо да будемо глобални играч. Председница Европске комисије Урсула фон дер Лајен рекла је да ЕУ жели да да већи геополитички допринос, а то је само могуће ако будемо и економски јаки. Ако за то буде потребно мењати споразум, онда смо на то спремни”, подвукла је она.
Курц је, рекавши да заступа исти став, нагласио да га радује што је покренут процес размишљања о будућности ЕУ и што ће он под председавањем Немачке, у другој половини ове године, бити у фокусу.
„Гајимо велику наду да ћемо моћи да договоримо којим правцем ће се развијати ЕУ”, подвукао је он.
Главна тема данашњег разговора два канцелара био је буџет ЕУ, о којем ће бити речи и на ванредном самиту 20. фебруара.
Меркелова и Курц су истакли да су Аустрија и Немачка у истој ситуацији, односно да су такозване нето-уплатнице, и да имају исти став.
„Сматрам да је финансијски оквир ЕУ за наредни период велики изазов који изискује компромис”, подвукла је она.
Рекла је да је за усвајање буџета потребна сагласност свих земаља чланица и да ће Немачка одбити пристанак ако буде сматрала да њени интереси нису узети у обзир.
„Међутим, сматрам да сви ми имамо интерес да се усвоји буџет ЕУ и са таквим ставом улазимо у преговоре, са спремношћу на компромис”, казала је она, додајући да је важно и за шта ће паре да се троше.
Курц, који је раније у медијима претио ветом, рекао је да Аустрија сматра допринос од 1,1 одсто БДП-а превисоким и да се нада новом предлогу.
Подвукао је да постоји усаглашеност око тог питања међу земљама нето-уплатницама.
Разлике између Аустрије и Немачке постоје по питању пореза ЕУ на финансијске трансакције, то јест званичан Беч одбија предлог немачког министра финансија Олафа Шолца.
„Жалимо што то Аустрија не подржава. Када се јавно говори о потреби за порезу на финансијске трансакције онда га сви подржавају, али да се конкретизује онда је све мање подржаваоца”, казала је Меркел.
Курц је подвукао да Аустрија одбија актуелни предлог министра Шолца.
Такође разлике постоје и око обнављање мисије ЕУ „Софија”.
Док Немачка подржава обнављање мисије за спречавање илегалне миграције преко мора, Курц истиче да, иако Аустрија нема море, она је земља дестинације.
„Видели смо у прошлости да спасилачке акције на Медитерану нису зауставиле умирање људи на мору, већ су учиниле атрактивнијим ову руту за илегалну миграцију. Наш циљ је да окончамо умирање на мору, а то можемо само ако спречимо да бродови уопште крену на пут”, поручио је Курц.
