Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce says the rules must apply to Novak Djokovic, as a decision on the tennis star's future looms ever closer.
Immigration Minister Alex Hawke is able to revoke Djokovic's visa, despite a court decision allowing him to stay in the country.
Mr Joyce said he would not attempt to pre-empt Mr Hawke's decision – but he made his own views clear.
"Obviously most of us thought because Mr Djokovic hadn't been vaxxed twice, he'd be asked to leave," he told Today.
"The vast majority of Australians didn't like the idea that another individual, whether they're a tennis player or the King of Spain or the Queen of England, can come up here and have a different set of rules to what everybody else has to deal with.
"Whether they agree with the rules or not, they believe they should abide by the rules, and that was the issue with Novak Djokovic."

da je vakcinacija obavezna i ćao zdravo, sve bi ovo bilo besmisleno, ali političari imaju rejtinge, pa nije pametno

He was on Nine’s Today show just moments ago and was asked for his thoughts on the Novak Djokovic saga. As mentioned earlier this morning, the federal government’s investigation into the tennis star’s visa has widened to include his breach of isolation requirements in Serbia as well as inconsistencies on the dates of his COVID-19 tests.
Here’s what the Labor leader had to say:
How is it that a ... visa was granted in the first place?
This has been diabolical for Australia’s reputation, just in terms of our competence here and it is extraordinary that - as we are speaking - we still don’t know what the decision will be.
The decision should have been made before he was granted a visa. Either he was eligible or he wasn’t.
Australia has a policy of not allowing unvaccinated people into Australia. It is beyond my comprehension how we have got to this point.
[Australians with relatives overseas] know how tough it is to get someone into Australia. At any time it is difficult, but at this time, in particular, it is extremely difficult.
Why is it those checks and balances weren’t in place for ... someone so prominent?

australija ima pravo da uradi šta god im padne na pamet po pitanju đokovića

a ako se posle bude igralo pred publikom dok imaju desetine hiljada slučajeva, onda to što rade nema veze ni sa kakvom logikom

ne vidim kao se to njih tiče, takođe Australijanci su sada dozvolili COVID pozitivnim u deficitarnim djelatnostima da rade ako su asimptomatski, samo zbog toga nemaju nikakvo pravo da mu to tovare na vrat

mislim, to bi bilo isto kada bi Holanđani optužili neku djevojku iz Srbije da se bavila prostitucijom u Srbiji

U nacelu, strana drzava moze da uradi tako nesto. Tipa, ti nekog ubijes ovde, niko te ne goni, a nadjes se na teritoriji recimo te Holandije - Holandija moze da te goni.
