Corbyn is 'happy' to meet May to discuss Brexit

The Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, has said he is “very happy” to meet Theresa May 

after she offered to sit down with him to agree a plan which allows the UK to 

leave the EU with a deal.

4. What is however, finally clear, (in as much as anything ever stays the same in this story) the PM has chosen moving to softer Brexit rather than leaving without a deal - even tho for a LONG time she legitimised that as an option to please the party

ne pratim ovaj svinjac dovoljno detaljno samo mi recite da li ova pomenuta ekipa koja je za no deal u fazonu "ne moze nam niko nista jaci smo od sudbine".....

More than 60 MPs and peers who support the European Research Group (ERG) gathered in committee room 15 of the House of Commons to watch the announcement on Tuesday night.

One member said they let out a collective gasp when the prime minister said she would invite Labour’s leader into No 10 for talks.

Former party leader Iain Duncan Smith told the Guardian: “I fear for Brexit. I am utterly puzzled as to why at this particular point we have handed control to a man who is not fit to run a whelk stall.

“Jeremy Corbyn is a man who would reduce the UK to an adjunct of Venezuela ... Brexit will end as a hotchpotch. It has left me completely floundering as to what the purpose of this was.”

As the meeting broke up, Jacob Rees-Mogg, the ERG’s chair, criticised the prime minister for planning to collaborate with “a known Marxist” and said the move would lose Tory votes.

“You do find that leaders who decide to go with the opposition rather than their own party find their own party doesn’t plainly follow. I’m not sure this is the way to conciliate people to persuade them if they haven’t moved already to move at this stage. I think getting the support of a known Marxist is not likely to instil confidence in Conservatives.”

Asked if he would support any form of call for no confidence in the prime minister, Rees-Mogg said he would not try to oust May again, having failed in an attempt in December.

Cabinet sources say the seven hours of meetings in Downing Street were at times fractious and bad tempered. It is understood that 14 ministers, including Liz Truss, Andrea Leadsom and Gavin Williamson, opposed a long extension to leaving the EU and 10 were in favour, including chancellor Philip Hammond, who made the case for a second referendum.

Williamson asked the prime minister directly how long a Brexit extension she would be willing to accept, but she declined to answer, cabinet sources said.

One cabinet source said a particularly tense moment came when Claire Perry, the climate change minister, “went on a rant” about rightwingers changing the direction of Brexit policy and Geoffrey Cox, the attorney general, “bellowed from the other end of the table” that such language was unhelpful, forcing May to intervene.

One cabinet remainer described Tuesday’s shift as a significant step towards a softer Brexit, and “a triumph of fact over wishful thinking” – but warned that it is unclear whether May’s decision will survive the furious backlash that is likely to ensue in her own party.

Cox, whose evidence that the UK risked being trapped in the Irish backstop indefinitely helped sink May’s deal at the second meaningful vote, urged her to make concessions to Corbyn in order to win a majority.

He spoke after several ministers had argued against any further extension to article 50, and said the government had to shift its position.

“He said, give Labour whatever they want to get it over the line,” said one cabinet source. In what was described by two sources as one of the key moments in the day-long negotiations, Michael Gove, who chaired the Vote Leave campaign, strongly agreed.
