An American university study of the Chinese internet counted 448 million fake social media posts in one year, 2016, with the preferred tactic of the fifty-cent army being not to pile on to critics – though they do that too – but to deflect attention, ideally by ‘cheerleading’ for pro-government news. Griffiths quotes the research:

Instead, most posts are about cheerleading and positive discussions of valence issues. We also detect a high level of co-ordination in the timing and content in these posts. A theory consistent with these patterns is that the strategic objective of the regime is to distract and redirect public attention from discussions or events with collective action potential.

China has been a dictatorship for seventy years. The idea that prosperity and the internet would in themselves make the country turn towards democracy has been proved wrong. Instead, China is about to become something new: an AI-powered techno-totalitarian state. The project aims to form not only a new kind of state but a new kind of human being, one who has fully internalised the demands of the state and the completeness of its surveillance and control. That internalisation is the goal: agencies of the state will never need to intervene to correct the citizen’s behaviour, because the citizen has done it for them in advance.

To nije uopste puno kada je populacije Zemlje preko 7 milijardi ljudi, dakle nekih 0.7% ljudske populacije.

China has now more millionaires and unicorns than the US and the tech sector may be the next sphere where Beijing can leave Washington behind, investor Dan Collins told Max Keiser.
Most people would assume that the number one city in the world to host tech start-ups is San Francisco, but Beijing was recently ranked as the world’s unicorn capital – 27 firms ahead of Silicon Valley. China is home to 206 unicorns (start-ups valued at more than $1 billion), while the US has a total of 203.

Emotion recognition is China’s new surveillance craze
Systems installed in Xinjiang but experts say tech does not work very well
Emotion recognition was the crime prevention buzz-phrase on everyone’s lips this week at China’s largest surveillance tech expo, held in the southern tech hub of Shenzhen.
The technology, which is being rolled out at airports and subway stations to identify criminal suspects, is the latest development in crime prediction systems in the world’s largest surveillance market, which already relies on facial and gait recognition, eye tracking and crowd analysis.
Emotion recognition systems have been installed in Xinjiang, a region in far western China where an estimated 1m mostly Muslim minorities are held in internment camps. In October, the US blocked eight Chinese artificial intelligence tech companies from buying US-made products on the grounds of alleged human rights abuses in Xinjiang.
“Using video footage, emotion recognition technology can rapidly identify criminal suspects by analysing their mental state . . . to prevent illegal acts including terrorism and smuggling,” said Li Xiaoyu, a policing expert and party cadre from the public security bureau in Altay city in Xinjiang. “We’ve already started using it.”
The technology is mostly deployed at customs, he added, and identifies signs of aggressiveness and nervousness as well as stress levels and a person’s potential to attack others.
Companies around the world, including Amazon, Microsoft and Google, are all developing emotion recognition, but scientists say the technology does not work very well. “This technology is still a bit of a gimmick and is unlikely to be rolled out on a large scale in the next 3-5 years,” said Ge Jia, an influential Beijing-based technology blogger.
“At present only a few schools and public security bureaus have products that include this type of technology,” said Zhen Wenzhuang at Baidu’s booth at the expo, adding it had not been fully developed for commercial use. A representative from facial recognition company Megvii, who declined to be named, said emotion recognition technology was being widely developed and used within government, particularly public security bureaus.
“We work with all kinds of companies in Xinjiang including Hikvision, Uniview, Dahua and Tiandy. Only companies that are strong in AI can really succeed in this field and of course the two biggest companies in this field are Alibaba and Tencent,” said Mr Li, adding the Xinjiang government also worked with them.
Almost Rmb14bn ($2bn) of infrastructure investment poured into Xinjiang in 2017 to develop its smart cities, far outstripping Beijing, the second largest recipient of investment, which received Rmb1.69bn, according to Qianzhan Industrial Research Institute, a Chinese consultancy.

Da se ne lazemo, ruski vlazni san je da ulete Ameri sa nekim dogovorom. To je sve sto im treba, na najmanju najavu toga u roku od 5 minuta okrecu curak naopako i usmeravaju nuklearke na Peking. Ali jebiga, neko te drzi pod sankcijama ovog ili onog tipa 80+ godina, moras se okrenuti negde drugde, sto jes jes...

China mulls $10 trillion Earth-moon economic zone

Bao Weimin, director of the Science and Technology Commission of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, revealed the ambitious plan at a seminar on space economy on Wednesday, media reported Friday.
In a report on developing earth and moon space, Bao shared his thoughts on the huge economic potential in this field and pledged that the country would study its reliability, cost and flight-style transportation system between the Earth and moon, The Science and Technology Daily reported Friday
He pledged to complete basic research and make a breakthrough on key technologies before 2030 and establish the transportation system by 2040. By 2050, China could successfully establish an earth-moon space economic zone, he said.
