The Russian president was due to discuss the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

They are in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for a summit with G20 leaders.

List “The Wahington Post“ piše kako vlasti Saudijske Arabije plaćaju kompenzaciju djeci ubijenog novinara Jamala Khashoggija, javlja Anadolu Agency (AA).

U tekstu se navodi kako su svih petero Khashoggijeve djece dobili vile u Rijadu koje vrijede po četiri miliona dolara, a da primaju i redovne mjesečne naknade.
Američki list tvrdi da zvanični Rijad tako pokušava ohrabriti dvojicu sinova i kćerke da ne pričaju o prošlogodišnjem ubistvu njihovog oca.
Pozivajući se na izjave neimenovanih saudijskih zvaničnika, list piše kako djeca ubijenog Khashoggija primaju po najmanje 10.000 dolara mjesečne naknade koju im je, kao i dodjelu vila, krajem prošle godine odobrio saudijski kralj Salman bin Abdelaziz.
“Washington Post” također tvrdi da bi Khashoggijeva djeca mogla u nagodbi za šutnju o ubistvu oca od vlasti u Rijadu dobiti i desetine miliona dolara.
Saudijski zvaničnik za “Washington Post” je kazao da je pomoć ožalošćenoj porodici dio saudijske tradicije i solidarnosti i odbacio je navode o pokušaju “ušutkivanja“ ožalošćenih.
Jamal Khashoggi, novinar i kolumnista lista “The Washington Post”, ubijen je 2. oktobra 2018. u saudijskom konzulatu u Istanbulu.
Tursko tužilaštvo otkrilo je da je on brutalno zadavljen po ulasku u konzulat te da je njegovo tijelo raskomadano i uništeno.

Four ships targeted in mystery "sabotage attack," says UAE

(CNN) — Four ships were targeted on Sunday near the strategic Emirati port of Fujairah, in what the UAE described as a "sabotage attack." One was flying a UAE flag, and another the Norwegian flag. The other two were tankers owned by Saudi Arabia, which described the incident as a threat to the security of global oil supplies.

There were no injuries or deaths, according to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. It did not elaborate on the nature of the alleged sabotage, or offer any indication as to who might be responsible.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said Monday that the incidents were "alarming and regrettable," and requested further information on the alleged sabotage. He also warned against "plots by ill-wishers to disrupt regional security" and called for "vigilance of regional states in the face of any adventurism by foreign elements."

Several US officials are cautioning there is no final conclusion on how the ships were damaged. One US official pointed out the lack of detail from the UAE and Saudi Arabia about how the ships were damaged.

In a tweet, Emirati Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said investigations in the incident were ongoing but that the government had its "own readings and conclusions."

On Monday, the UAE formally asked the US for technical assistance in assessing the vessels' damage, according to a US official. The US experts will look at the damage patterns, try to recover any material from the site, and determine if some kind of missile or weapon hit the ships.

Rumblings about Iran

Last week, the US Maritime Administration issued an advisory that "Iran or its proxies" could be targeting commercial vessels and oil production infrastructure in the region. The warning followed Iran's announcement that it was partially withdrawing from a landmark nuclear deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which the US itself unilaterally exited one year ago.

US Air Force F-15s and F-35s, along with B-52 bombers, are now flying visible air patrols over the Persian Gulf, according to a US official, who said that the flights were designed to demonstrate to both Iran and US allies that US forces are in a deterrence mode.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION PREPARES MULTIPLE MILITARY OPTIONS FOR IRAN, INCLUDING AIRSTRIKES AND SETTING UP GROUND INVASION

When President Trump’s top national security advisers met for a classified meeting at the Pentagon last Thursday, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan laid out several U.S. military options for Iran, separated into two distinct categories: retaliatory and offensive.

The revised Iran options ordered by John Bolton, President Trump’s national security adviser, have different degrees and redlines for escalation, ranging from airstrikes to targeted incursions, Pentagon officials told Newsweek.

Defense Department officials who have been briefed on the details of the updated military plans for Iran agreed to speak with Newsweek on condition of anonymity. Pentagon officials confirmed a report published in The New York Times on Monday outlining an option to deploy as many as 120,000 U.S. troops to the Middle East if Iran initiates an attack on U.S. forces or continues to work on what the U.S. has alleged were secret nuclear proliferation objectives.

Pentagon officials told Newsweek that if deployed, the role of the 120,000 U.S. forces would center on logistical support and developing infrastructure to preposition U.S. forces for the option of a ground invasion. The original 120,000 would integrate into an additional surge of U.S. forces sent into the region.

American special operations forces traditionally play a heavy role both during and after battlespace preparation, defense officials added but said their use would depend on the Iranian scenario and the varying degrees outlined in the escalation of force matrix.

Contacted by Newsweek on Tuesday, the Pentagon referred questions to the National Security Council, who had not responded in time for publication.

Among those who attended Thursday’s meeting with Shanahan: national security adviser John Bolton; Marine General Joseph Dunford, the top U.S. military officer; CIA Director Gina Haspel; and Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence.

Defense Department sources told Newsweek the attendees were on the same page in terms of the options presented citing Haspel as a “professional” and Shanahan as a “yes-man” for President Trump. However, sources said the classified meeting at the Pentagon is standard and not unusual when there are escalation factors to consider.

One Pentagon source said the meeting does not equate to the United States beginning the early stages of war. Instead, it was a show of force against Iran and part of a strategy aimed at diplomatic resolution. "It’s just flexing muscles," the official said.

Senior American officials told the Times the preliminary options show how threatening Iran has become. A Pentagon source told Newsweek if anything is likely to happen involving the preliminary Iran options, it would involve a heavy guided missile strike campaign in an attempt to lead Tehran to the negotiation table with Washington.

"It depends on the escalation of force. But no matter the bravado from Iran’s side, when you get hit it with 500 missiles every day, it degrades you, which is the objective. When your opponent is weak, you get more out of any negotiation," said one official with knowledge of the Iran plans.

It is not clear if President Trump has been briefed on the updated Iran options, but Pentagon officials told Newsweek the House and Senate Armed Services and Intelligence Committees will be briefed but the American people should not expect strong opposition given the current climate on Capitol Hill.
