"They did tell me to cut back, yeah, but I thought that I may as well die of something I enjoy," he reasons. "Who wants to live until 102, anyway? I'd be bored shitless."
But doesn't he want to live until at least 66?
He shrugs. "If I do die sooner rather than later, I'll be satisfied with what I've done. I've had a good life, I've been around the world, met all kinds of people. I've made people laugh, I've fucked chicks of every colour, shape, religion and persuasion. I've had a whale of a time out of rock'n'roll, and rock'n'roll has had a whale of a time out of me. That'll do."

“...the Beatles were hard men too. Brian Epstein cleaned them up for mass consumption, but they were anything but sissies. They were from Liverpool, which is like Hamburg or Norfolk, Virginia--a hard, sea-farin' town, all these dockers and sailors around all the time who would beat the piss out of you if you so much as winked at them. Ringo's from the Dingle, which is like the f***ing Bronx. The Rolling Stones were the mummy's boys--they were all college students from the outskirts of London. They went to starve in London, but it was by choice, to give themselves some sort of aura of disrespectability. I did like the Stones, but they were never anywhere near the Beatles--not for humour, not for originality, not for songs, not for presentation. All they had was Mick Jagger dancing about. Fair enough, the Stones made great records, but they were always s**t on stage, whereas the Beatles were the gear.”

Some people I know were surprised you were on the bill for a Chuck Berry tribute – but when you think about it, it's not really that far off.
No it's not. The blues has always been in rock & roll as long as I've been ar0und. People are really dumb about music. They think if they like this thing first they've got to stay with it only for the rest of their life. You can't listen to anything else or you're a sissy. It's so dumb. There's so much music out there. There's only two kinds of music I can't stand: rap and opera. Opera because it's too overblown and rap because I just don't hear it. I just don't get it.
Where I was in North Wales, it was kind of like living in West Virginia: a long way to go for anything important. I used to get my records by going to the local appliance store. They sold washing machines and fans and shit and you were always looking for them. There was no TV, no radio in Britain at the time. There was only Radio Luxembourg and the reception was terrible, so you were frickin' moving your antenna, which didn't work. It was hopeless. Every afternoon I'd hear a great song and they'd say, "That's by . . . pssssshh [white noise]." So you'd go two weeks before you found who the fuck sang it.
When I interviewed Chuck, I mentioned the segregated venues he used to play in the South when he was younger. He teared up and recalled, "My dad said, 'I don't know if we'll live to see it but one day we will [have an African-American President] – and I thank God that I have."
I would have said America wasn't ready for it. And I don't think they were, because they're trying to drag him down now. I mean, the poor fucker's only just gotten rid of all that George Bush shit that he left, or is trying to. And he's being stonewalled by the fucking Congress all the time. I don't know how he's gotten anything done. They should be glad. I mean the alternative is Mitt Romney. Please, please don't vote for Mitt Romney. Fuck him. Repeal abortion law is the first thing he'll do. Fucking monster.Did you watch the debates?I couldn't bear it.
What was your approach in playing a Chuck Berry song?
No, I'm going to play just like Chuck played more or less. I'm going to play the British invasion version of two of his songs because, I mean the Beatles started it, playing his stuff again after he came out of jail. Nobody was playing his stuff. It was like he vanished. Then the Beatles came out and the Stones after that. They were both playing Chuck Berry stuff, which was great. Because I always thought mods were fuckin' assholes. As it turned out later, we found even the Who thought the mods were assholes, you know. They only got their hair cut for a publicity gimmick, which worked very well for them and made them rich and famous. But they weren't really. They were a blues band before. One of those songs is "I Got Love If You Want It," Willie Dixon.

Tell me a little about your relationship with The Ramones. (Lemmy wrote a song called “R.A.M.O.N.E.S” for the band, and performed it with them at their last show in 1996).I met them back in 1977 when they came to England, actually I think it was 1976. I just fell in well with Joey and Dee Dee, you know. Johnny wasn’t so friendly but then he never was. The other two I got on really well with. And, terrible they’re all gone. I couldn’t believe it. I mean, Johnny and Dee went within seven months of each other? Ridiculous. Bang, bang, bang, they’re all gone. I think they kind of died when Dee Dee left, you know, in a way. I think that crippled Joey, because he had no buddies in the band then.

Dave Grohl honors Lemmy with Ace of Spades tattoo
Alex Young
Dave Grohl was one of the many musicians deeply affected by the death of Lemmy Kilmister. Hours after his passing on Monday night, Grohl immortalized the Motörhead frontman with a tattoo inspired by the band’s iconic Ace of Spades logo.
Grohl also paid tribute to Lemmy on Foo Fighters’ Facebook page, writing, “We’ve lost a friend & legend. My heart is broken. RIP Lemmy. Born To Lose, Lived To Win.” He included a link to a video of Motörhead performing “Stay Clean” from their 1979 album Overkill.
Aside from being close friends, Grohl and Lemmy were frequent collaborators. Grohl enlisted Lemmy’s vocals for his 2004 heavy metal side project Probot, and the two also performed together at the 2010 Revolver Golden Gods Awards. More recently, Lemmy starred in Foo Fighters’ classic video for “White Limo”.

Drummer Mikkey Dee Confirms That Motörhead Died with Lemmy
December 29th, 2015 at 11:05am Axl Rosenberg 53
I don’t think anyone really expected Motörhead to try and continue without vocalist/bassist Lemmy Kilmister, who died yesterday at age seventy. Lemmy was very much the face and the heart of the band, so it’s basically impossible to imagine anyone taking his place.
And no one will. Drummer Mikkey Dee, who has been in the band since 1992, tells Sweden’s Expressen: “Motörhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motörhead. But the band will live on in the memories of many.”
Dee also described Kilmister in his final months: “He was terribly gaunt, he spent all his energy on stage and afterwards he was very, very tired. It’s incredible that he could even play, that he could finish the Europe tour. It was only 20 days ago. Unbelievable.”
Unbelievable indeed. R.I.P. Lemmy. We miss you already.

Neil Gaiman:
RIP LEMMY Here’s my Lemmy story.
The party was I think for either PJ O Rourke or Tama Janowitz, and I
think it was PJ O'Rourke -- every Pan publishing party of that vintage
took place in the same room upstairs in the Groucho Club, anyway -- and
when the party ended I wandered downstairs with the publicists and Roz
Kaveney and a lady named Maria who was then the books editor of Time
Out. We carried on talking and drinking, and when the Groucho closed we
moved, shedding a few people as we did so, to another club, and then
to another, and finally it was just me and Maria wandering the streets
of Soho, still talking, and Maria (who in five years would lose her
job, and twenty years later, her life, both mostly from booze)
desperate for that last final drink.
We were in the unpromising area at the top of Wardour Street, and I
blinked, and realised that I was standing next to a door I recognised.
My friend Dave Dickson had taken me there, years before. A downstairs
bar, semi-secret. Lemmy from Motorhead had been down there, playing the
fruit machines.
I knocked on the door. A suspicious face looked out. "Can we have a
drink?" I asked. "I don't know what you're talking about," said the
man, impassively. "Er..." I thought about mentioning Dave Dickson, but
didn't think it would work. "We're friends of Lemmy's," I said.
"You should of said," he told me. "He's downstairs waiting for you."
And we went downstairs. Lemmy was still on the fruit machines, as he
had been two years before. I sidled over to him. "Er, just used your
name to get in," I said. "Good on yer," said Lemmy. And Maria got her
drink.
I never found it again -- never looked for it -- although I am certain
that if I was ever drunk enough and in Soho late at night, it would be
there waiting. And Lemmy, wherever he really was in the world or out
of it, would be down there playing the fruit machines.

Motörhead to stream Lemmy’s service; petition to name new element “Lemmium” in place
Posted by Alix Vallecillo on January 7, 2016
Many things are happening in the wake of Lemmy’s passing, including “Ace of Spades” finally reaching the charts and the Sunset Strip take over for his memorial in Hollywood, CA but things aren’t stopping there. As expected, many would like to attend to his funeral service to pay tribute to the legend but that sort of events are usually reserved for family and close friends but Motorhead being as awesome as they are, decided to stream the service for everyone on the web.
The band released the following statement:
But that’s not all that’s going on. If you follow any science-related news, you may know that there’s now four new elements to be added to the periodic table and metal fans, as creative as we are, decided to take a similar approach to the petition to add a Lemmy statue at the Rainbow Bar in Hollywood and created another petition to name one of those elements after Lemmy himself.“Family and close friends will observe a service at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Hollywood, commencing at 3pm PST and ending at 4.30pm. With such limited space available on-site, we respectfully ask that you don’t attend the cemetery… but we want you ALL to be a part of this, so we are setting up a live feed of the service via the internet on Motörhead’s official You Tube channel.
“Wherever you are, PLEASE get together and watch the service with fellow Motörheadbangers and friends. GO to your favorite bar, or your favorite club, make sure they have access to an internet connection and toast along with us. Or simply invite your pals around and celebrate Lemm’s life at home. Whatever your venue, and however you can, let’s be sure to gather globally on Saturday 9th and celebrate the life of our dear friend and irreplaceable icon.”
I guess we are making sure Lemmy’s memory not only endures the test of time with his music but also in whatever way possible. If you want to sign the petition, head over here and see if the scientist take notice of it and, if you can’t attend his memorial in Hollywood for not living close enough, make sure to catch the stream at Motörhead’s channel or contribute with a donation to the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund as the band has requested their loyal fans in case they want to support any of this.Lemmy was a force of nature and the very essence of heavy metal. We believe it is fitting that the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry recommend that one of the four new discovered Heavy Metals in the Periodic table is named Lemmium. An astrological object (a star) has been named Lemmy to meet the IUPAC naming recommendations.
If you think all these petitions are getting out of hand, you should see the one asking basically everyone to start naming Jack and Cokes ‘A Lemmy’ which it’d be good so I can easily tell my bartender to get me drink in a single word.
