Current polls have Støre’s Labour party winning 49 seats and Solberg’s Conservatives 45, well short of the 85 seats needed to secure a majority.

It would be up to Labour to form a government, probably encompassing the Socialist Left (slated to win 11 seats) and the Centre Party (likely to win 19).

That leaves Støre with 79 seats, still short but able to form a minority government. If he wanted a majority he will have to seek the support of even smaller parties, including the Communists and the Greens, both of which are expected to add to their current single member of parliament.

Preliminary election results in Finland:

The party of current Prime Minister Sana Marin won only 20.7% of the votes, while the right-wing National Coalition party won 20.8%.

Another right-wing party, the "Party of the Finns", won 18.6% of the votes, while the "Centre" party won 12.4%.

The party with the most votes will have the opportunity to form the government.

Finland’s center-right National Coalition Party has claimed victory with 94.2% of votes counted in Sunday’s extremely tight three-way parliamentary race, appearing to beat the ruling Social Democrats led by Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

“Based on this result, talks over forming a new government to Finland will be initiated under the leadership of the National Coalition Party,” said the party’s leader Petteri Orpo, as he claimed victory surrounded by supporters.
