On October 4, 1941, the Bulgarians enforced an extraordinary measure that prohibited the Jews of Macedonia from engaging in any type of industry or commerce. All existing Jewish businesses had three months to transfer ownership to non-Jews or sell their assets and close down. In addition, a law that barred Jews from certain areas of town was enforced in Monastir in late 1941. Jews who lived in the more prosperous part of Monastir, located on the east side of the Dragor River, were forced to move to a poorer part of town located near the traditional Jewish quarter on the west side, and this area became the ghetto.

With Monastir's Jews forced into a ghetto and registered, it became easier to carry out the theft of their property. On July 2, 1942, the Bulgarian government demanded that all Jewish households hand over 20 percent of the value of all assets, including property, furniture, cash, and household items. Committees were established to assess the value of the Jews' property. The possessions of those who did not have the money to pay the tax were sold at auction.

During April 1941, the Bulgarian army entered the city, and on 22 April the annexation of the region known as “southern Serbia” (Macedonia and certain parts of Serbia) to Bulgaria – an ally of Nazi Germany – was declared. The Macedonian population received Bulgarian citizenship. The Serbs were fired from their workplaces, and deported to areas of occupied Serbia by the Germans. Those left without citizenship or any other basic rights were the Jews. All their property was confiscated, and they were dismissed from their jobs and forbidden to work.

Etnolog Jasna Jojić rekla je da poslednjih godina srpski momci sve češće žene Albanke i to preko agencija za posredovanje.
O tome svedoči i porodica nastala iz srpsko-albanskog braka u selu Sagonjevo na jugu Srbije. U selo, koje nije imalo mnogo devojaka, stigla je mlada iz Albanije. Bilo joj je teško na početku, nije znala ni jezik, bila je daleko od svoje porodice, međutim, danas nikuda ne bi išla iz Sagonjeva jer joj je tu sve što voli - i suprug i dete. Već godinama žive zajedno u srećnom braku.
"Već 2005. sam napravila reportažu o tome da se Albanke rado udaju za Srbe. Dolazile su u južnu Srbiju. Mi imamo inače mnogo neoženjenih momaka na selu jer devojke idu u grad, međutim, posle 15-20 godina, kako se i Srbija promenila i kako modernizujemo sela, imamo internet, dobre zarade, menja se i situacija", rekla je Jojić.
U jednoj od agencija za upoznavanje iz Albanije kažu da se Srbi koji bi da ožene Albanke neprestano javljaju. Pošalju svoju i fotografiju kuće u kojoj žive, često i sela. Javljaju se muškarci od 18 do 70 godina. Sklopljeno je dosta brakova, a razvoda nije bilo.
U Albaniji inače živi više žena nego muškaraca.
"Prema svetskim podacima, danas u Albaniji živi 35-40 odsto hrišćana, od toga su čak 25 odsto pravoslavci, a ima i 40 odsto ateista, videćemo da nisu daleko kulturološki od Srbije", navela je Jojić.
U jednoj anketi u Knez Mihailovoj pitali su muškarce različitih uzrasta da li bi oženili Albanku.
"Da li bih se oženio Albankom? Zašto da ne ako bi ispunila određene kriterijume. Zašto da ne", bio je jedan od odgovora.
"Iskreno, ne bih, ja sam iz Crne Gore, ne bih", rekao je drugi učesnik ankete.
