Studija novog GSK-ovog leka protiv određene podvrste raka rektuma (3. rak po učestalosti u SAD) Jemperli (dostarlimab-gxly) baziranog na imunoterapiji dala fenomenalne i dosad nezabeležene rezultate - kod 14 od 14 (100%) pacijenata sa odmaklim kancerom rektuma koji su završili ceo tok terapije (6 meseci intravenskog uzimanja leka na svake 3 nedelje - ukupno 9 sesija) rak je potpuno nestao, kod još 4 pacijenta terapija je u toku. Pacijenti nisu lečeni zračenjem ni hemoterapijom, dakle jedina terapija bila je intravensko uzimanje leka, što znači da su tokom tih 6 meseci imali gotovo nepromenjen kvalitet života pošto neželjena dejstva nisu bila ozbiljna.
 
Ekipa studije sada planira istraživanja na većem broju pacijenata, kao i na drugim čvrstim tumorima (npr. želuca, pankreasa i bešike).
 
Kažu da se nove terapije za rak sada pojavljuju tipa jednom mesečno, dok je pre nekoliko godina to bilo jednom godišnje.

Zaživeće, ali sporo i ne učinkovito kao sada kada je u fazi II kliničke studije. I najverovatnije zbog cene neće biti dostupno većini u Srbiji.

Ovakve stvari se polako i skoro neprimetno dešavaju već 20tak godina i mic po mic je petogodišnji survival rate za mnoge karcinome sve bolji i bolji.

I po svemu sudeći, imunoterapija je way to go from here.

A Paralyzed Man Can Walk Naturally Again With Brain and Spine Implants

In a new study, researchers describe a device that connects the intentions of a paralyzed patient to his physical movements.

In a study published on Wednesday in the journal Nature, researchers in Switzerland described implants that provided a “digital bridge” between Mr. Oskam’s brain and his spinal cord, bypassing injured sections. The discovery allowed Mr. Oskam, 40, to stand, walk and ascend a steep ramp with only the assistance of a walker. More than a year after the implant was inserted, he has retained these abilities and has actually showed signs of neurological recovery, walking with crutches even when the implant was switched off.

“We’ve captured the thoughts of Gert-Jan, and translated these thoughts into a stimulation of the spinal cord to re-establish voluntary movement,” Grégoire Courtine, a spinal cord specialist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, who helped lead the research, said at the press briefing.

A new mRNA cancer vaccine made by pharmaceutical firm Moderna is being trialled in British patients.

The mRNA technology – which was adapted to make Covid-19 jabs – works by helping the body recognise and fight cancer cells.

Experts believe these vaccines may lead to a new generation of “off-the-shelf” cancer therapies.

Once in the body, the mRNA (a genetic material) ‘teaches’ the immune system how cancer cells differ to healthy cells and mobilises it to destroy them.
